How my journey with Yoga began
My first experience of Yoga was during my professional dance training in 2009. At the time, I was approaching yoga from a purely physical perspective, something to aid my dance career. Unsurprisingly, a professional Dance career takes its toll physically but also mentally. A few years later my confidence, self esteem and belief in myself was at an all time low, so I decided to take some time out and discover what I enjoyed outside of Dance. Suddenly I wasn’t moving my body like I used to and I wanted to find something I could do to move my body that maybe wasn’t so competitive, aesthetically driven or involve a teacher asking for more and more. So I found myself at a Bikrim Yoga Studio! It didn’t take me too long to recognise that the style of Yoga wasn’t for me, the dress code and the claims that the teacher shouted at us was another version of what I was wanting to step away from. So I took another break.
Fast forward to 2016 and with a little bit of help from people I love, I had managed to remember what it was I loved about Dance and returned to the industry as a qualified teacher and Choreographer specialist. I started to rebuild a healthy relationship with my body and how I treated it. This is where Yoga steps back in. Very slowly but very surely I started to enjoy and become interested in Yoga beyond the physical and it was during my 200hr Training the real shift started to happen. I started to entertain the idea of letting go of the need for perfection. That being able to do all the asana postures doesn’t make me a worthy teacher. I stepped into life as a Yoga teacher in 2019 and then of course 2020 happened. At the beginning of lockdown I started my Advanced Teacher Training with Jason Crandell and absolutely loved being a student, gaining deeper knowledge of how our bodies work, the philosophy of Yoga and exploring meditation for the first time. This training gave me the confidence to start exploring my own style within my teaching and trust myself as a teacher.
Throughout 2020 I delved even further into my practice, I started to really understand the importance of rest and the focus of my practice and teaching changed. I wanted to provide a space for calm, stillness and breath within our asana practice and from this “Becoming with Bex” started to evolve.

Thank you so much for this afternoon's workshop. I really enjoyed it and enjoyed having more time to really relax into the practice. Sometimes with an hour long class it takes me about half of it to stop fretting about the day past and things to come and to really get focused. Having 2 hours and space to reflect - both on the practice but also on this year - was so good and gave a real sense of perspective.
I loved the structure of the class and you guided us all with kindness, thoughtfulness and humour which made it a very positive and uplifting afternoon.
